Shri Elangkovan Narayanan is a highly respected Indian classical percussionist renowned for his expertise in the field of Carnatic music. A graduate of the Temple of Fine Arts Malaysia, he was conferred the title “Layanjali” and awarded the “Yogatha Pathra” (Certificate of Merit) for outstanding achievement in his practical examination, held at the Temple of Fine Arts in Singapore.
Throughout his career, Elangkovan has performed in major Carnatic concerts, instrumental showcases, and classical dance programs both in Malaysia and internationally. His mastery of the mridangam has made him a sought-after accompanist across the classical arts scene. In addition to the mridangam, he is a versatile performer on a range of Indian percussion instruments, including the gatham (clay pot drum), kanjira, and tabla.
Elangkovan’s versatility extends into fusion music as well. He has participated in numerous collaborative and cross-genre performances, including the Drum Festival hosted by the Kuala Lumpur Municipal Arts Centre and the 1998 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. Outside the classical stage, he is also known for his interest and participation in Latin music and dance, reflecting a broad artistic curiosity that continues to define his dynamic musical journey.
